Our Services & Treatment

Guenthner Physical Therapy is able to work with many different disorders affecting human performance. Listed below are some of our specialty areas. This is by no means an exhaustive list. We treat many other diagnoses, so please call to discuss your particular problem if you have any questions.

Low back, neck, and spinal disorders: Back injuries are common and something most of us will experience in our lifetime. Guenthner Physical Therapy is specialized in handling a wide variety of problems with the spine. Our hands on, one-on one approach, allows us to identify the underlying issues, such as, disc disorders, facet problems, musculoskeletal dysfunction, and postural deficits, and treat the problem to help improve your pain and function. We will work with your physician to set up a treatment plan that is individualized to your needs.

Headaches/tempomandibular joint (tmj) problems:Headaches and TMJ issues are often frustrating and difficult to assess. We specialize in problems involving the head, neck, and jaw and are able to manage issues that many other professionals can’t treat. We will coordinate your care with your dentist or physician, as appropriate. Treatment may include soft tissue mobilization, neuromuscular/muscle energy techniques, postural correction, flexibility and strengthening activities, and splinting.

Orthopedic therapy: We handle all common musculoskeletal problems of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle and foot. We will work with you to avoid surgery, when possible, or rehabilitate you pre and post surgery to facilitate getting back to work, activities of daily living, sports, and leisure. We will safely and efficiently progress your program to get you back to your lifestyle using the most up-to-date, technological methods available.

Sports therapy: Whether you are a weekend warrior or an elite athlete, we understand the importance of quickly and safely rehabilitating you to reach your previous level of function. We also recognize that prevention of re-injury is crucial to re-establishing yourself in your sport. For this reason, our highly qualified staff will work with your physician and trainer to bring you to your optimal performance using the most up to date, technological methods available.

Neuro rehab: Neurological problems, such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and multiple sclerosis, can negatively affect even the simplest of tasks from dressing, bathing, getting up and down from a chair, and walking. These issues can significantly alter your life. Understanding the role that these disruptions can have, we work hard to rehabilitate you to reach your maximum physical potential. We will assess strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, gait, and equipment needs, and design a program that individually addresses your problems.

Balance/fall disorders :Difficulties with balance and falls can occur for a variety of reasons. Our advanced approach to assessing and treating these issues can make all the difference in your safety and comfort. We will work with your physician to coordinate care and comprehensively address your problems.

Gait disturbances: Walking can become difficult for many reasons, impairing your freedom and ability to safely get in and out of the home. It can also be an issue that affects athletic performance, pain in other joints, or just perceptions about how we look or feel about our walking. Our trained experts will evaluate the underlying dysfunction that is creating the disturbances in your gait, and set up a program to remediate the problem.

Wheel chair evaluations: Making a decision about needing a wheelchair or scooter and the appropriate type, requires the expertise of a trained therapist. We will evaluate your ambulation, home situation, strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance to determine the best course of action for you, both short term and long term. Our evaluation will assist you and your physician to determine the best solution available.

Pelvic floor dysfunction: Female incontinence and pelvic pain can be an embarrassing issue to deal with. This can lead to treatment avoidance and living in silence for long periods of time. Your female physical therapist will work with you in a respectful fashion to help you gain control of these difficulties. Treatment can include strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles, biofeedback, and manual therapy techniques to bring your pelvis into alignment and optimize the function of the deep muscles of your abdomen.

Pre surgical training: When surgery is necessary, therapy done prior can significantly impact how quickly and effectively you are able to rehabilitate yourself following your procedure. Therapy will concentrate on strength and flexibility of the joint(s) that will be affected and will dramatically improve your post surgical experience.

Work rehabilitation: There are times when your injury will negatively impact your ability to get back to work. In these situations you may need a more specialized approach to helping you to get back to work. We offer work conditioning programs and functional capacity evaluations to provide the objective, work related assessment and activities that you may need to bridge the gap between injury and work.
